Research field:
David’s field of expertise is regional geography. His work focuses on the geography of sparsely populated, peripheral, and rural areas, with particular attention to demographic processes. His research is characterized by a quantitative and GIS-based approach, while also aiming to interpret empirical results within their broader social and cultural context. His research topics include how socio-economic and political frameworks shape and reinforce uneven population distributions, for example in the Australian “Outback.” His international experiences include research of rural geography of Ukraine and Belarus, regional impacts from disasters and natural hazards, as well as rural transformation in China. In addition, David is an active science communicator, recognised with the Juhari Zsuzsanna Special Prize by the Club of Science Journalists in 2022.
